Background: A foreign exchange student from America, he was transfered to Iwatodai as part of his school's relationship with Gekkoukan High. Only knowing a moderate amount of Japanese, he was still able to qualify for the school's program. He was recently living at another dorm at the time when the incidents occured.
One night, while studying late at night in order to catch up, he noticed a woman running away and was shocked to discover a monster chasing her. He rushed out from the dorm, taking only a moment to discover his dormmates have turned into coffins. He chases after her only to discover her facing away from him and with a gun pointed at her head. He is surprised to see the woman alive, but the monster now dead. She turns around and dissappears, leaving behind that same gun and a broad sword. Shortly afterwards, another Shadow appears and Samuel is cornered. Remembering what the woman did, he shoots himself with that gun, feeling a strange prescence appear above him, eliminating the Shadow with a tremendous shockwave of magic, knocking him out as well due to the large use of power. He awakens in his dorm roomw ith the Broad Sword and the Gun in his closet, leaving Samuel to wonder what to do as well.
Recently, Samuel had moved into the Iwatodai Dorms in the middle of a party, leading to him being associated and acquainted with members of SEES soon after the party. He is currently living on the other side of the counter by the door, claiming it as his temporary room.
It has been revealed to various people that when he was 10 years old, he saved a young girl named Amy from 3 strong bullies. The two became best friends with the promise that he will always protect her from trouble, and eventually became childhood lovers when they both turned 12. however, shortly afterwards, she was murdered by a serial killer who happened to cross paths with her at night. Samuel, being on summer vacation at the time, was hurt very badly and ended up blaming himself for Amy's murder, feeling that since he wasn't there to save her, it was his fault that she died. From that point, he became a very isolated and aggressive man, getting into a few fights when people had insulted him. When he found out about studying abroad in Japan, the only study abroad program his high school offered, he spent the first two years studying Japanese, mastering the spoken language and picking up decent amounts of the written language, just so that he can run away and start over again. However, in his first Tartarus run, he was partially responsible for some of his comrade's injuries due to his anger taking over him. He has both promised to both Yamada Touya and Takeba Yukari that he will deal with his anger issues.
Personality: Samuel is seen as a friendly man to some people as well as a very determined man to others. When he is not working on an important task, or just relaxing, Samuel is easy to get along with and sociable. When he is working on an important task, he clears his mind of most things to focus on said task. As a result, he is also seen as either courageous or foolish. However, what has been recently found out is that Samuel has a LOT of anger within him, so if someone makes him angry, it is possible that he may snap or be violent. However, in contrast to that, Samuel has developed a fatherly concern for all members of SEES, particularly with his friends, in the sense that he wants to protect everyone as best as he can, to the point where he will die for them. He is also more training-focused than before, thanks to his interactions with his comrade, Li Asuka.
